question regarding epa
 

Hey guys im looking at a 2004 f250 regular cab with the 5.4 v8 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the fuel economy is, i know most people are going to say if you need to know you dont want this truck etc... I do construction and also go to college 30 miles away so id be drivin roughly 60 ish miles per day. Im just looking to see what the fuel is going to cost me, ballpark of course. thanks alot guys

well, first thing o take into consideration, is, is it highway miles or city miles, cuase if its high way miles and say the average speed youll be travlin is 60mph, your fuel average would some where be in the area of 25-27 miles roughly. if its mainly city, or stop and go, could range from 12 to 17 miles to the gal. so you can do the math of whatever the price of regular unleaded is around you and figure out rough cost that way.

if it its city, driving, a good way to get that 17mi. is to really watch your acceleration and stoping. youd want to be coasting to stop lights insterad of laying on the brakes at the last second. and then to be sure you dont have a lead foot on the gas pedal. 5.4s do have a bad rep for being gas guzzlers, but what truck doesnt?

25-27 for a gasoline. that seems really high. i have a 98 4.6L triton v8 and it only gets 16 average both highway and city. i am sure with the newer styles and cleaner engines it gets a little better than may but 10 mpg's more. maybe i am just crazy.

how is that 350 diesel, because i got my 250 diesel with 68,000 on it, and it was in good condition same yr, and i was able to pick it up for 14 even.

i had looked a couple of 350s but each one had its own problems, like the gap between the door, and where it meets the bottom of the cab, you could easily fit you entire fist up in there, and when we looked inside, you could see the rust spot forming. also one had a re-call on it that was never fixed, so thats another thing to look for, if there are any re-calls on any vehicle you look at.

yea, i know what you mean, but i have a friend who picked up a 05 or 06 150, with the 5.4 and he gets pretty good mileage, in the mid 20s for the most part. thats when hes not haulin anything though, haha. but i really believe in the whole, watch your driving styles, cause that also makes a difference, at least im one of those people who think it does

the 00 f350 was in great shape unfortunately someone was able to pick it up before me, its amazing how few good condition trucks there are out there. i mean there is plenty if i wasnt to pay 25k or more but i dont want that. im trying to stay at around 350/ month and its tough. i do construction but still go to college so its gonna suck commuting but im hoping i can make some cash plowing... And i love fords, my dad has an 03 f350 diesel, i worked at ford for a few years and they just seem all around beefier then chevy gmc and dodge. The only thing that drives me nuts is the door switch, it sticks and the light stays on,. the same thing happens on my moms 97 expedition,lol. Maybe they should just eliminate the switch or something. but if anyone knows of any low priced f250's or f350's around mass let me know.

for someone going to college like yourself you might want to look at a early 90's truck and just change plugs, filters, and put in a little fuel injector cleaner in it and it will get the engine better and u will see some fuel millage increase. and personally i really like the older ford trucks (88-96 model) they were built well and you still see them everywhere plus you can get them pretty cheap. but its up to you whatever you like and think whats best.

yea i need somethign newer that is 100% reliable, i only have 3 semesters left so im not to worried about that. I just need a reliable truck
