need help with egr valve

OK i will try this different ...i have a problem with my truck 2006 F350 6.0L diesel ....it wont go over 20 km a cuts in and out with black smoke comes out of the tail pipe ....some one told me its the egr valve ...is this true

is your check engine light on? Have you pulled any codes??
