Speedometer not working

1998 GMC Sonoma Highrider
Speedometer wasnt working when I bought it, since the weather got warmer it started jumping around once awhile but would never stay for more than a second and stop moving again. Any thoughts? Maybe ideas whats wrong and simple fix?

the sending unit. it should be electric, and relatively cheap and simple to change.
