tail gate alarm

I want to put a switch on my tailgate that sets off the alarm just like opening a door would once the alarm is set for the cab area......is this possible. Tired of tools getting stolen from the truck at night. the tail gate has a lock but i dont use it because they would just cut the tunneau cover that covers the bed area.

It's as simple as going to radio shack and buying a switch and wire. You would buy a "normally closed switch". You will have to drill a hole in the bed so when the switch is mounted the gate will press it in which opens the connection when the gates is opened. I would run the wire to just before the drivers door switch and pigtail it, at least that's what I did on my previous truck. worked like a charm as long as the truck alarm was set.

I would secure my tools a little better(middle/ back of bed) and set the alarm for sensitive. That way the crook will have to touch the truck to get anything worth$$ and the alarm will sound. -or-
Do like I have and install the rolling locking bed cover. Lock the tailgate and bed cover and wa-la. They don't steel what they can't see or get too. Worth the money.

Like he said, that is a easy hookup and you should do it for under $20.00. Good luck. :)
