Default 87 ranger

I bought a 87 ranger to use a daily drive and save my other truck. The thing is it gets 9 miles a gallon. Are there any ways I can increase the mpg, I'm thinking in terms of adding parts. I have heard that cool air intakes increase mpg slightly, but are there other parts you can use to help more.

TBI is Throttle Body Injection.
Your truck is either throttle body injection or a carburetor.

Either way, I would start with a FULL service on your fuel delivery system and ignition system.
Start with a TBI cleaner and fuel filter.

If the mechanical advance in the distributor is gummed up and stuck, it could do this.
You can put a timing light on it, disconnect and plug the vacumn advance hose, if equipped. Watch the timing mark as you raise the r.p.m.s to 2 grand. If it moves, not this, if not, is
