2001 Suburban Service 4x4 problem

I have a 2001 1500 suburban 4x4. It has 75,000 miles on it. I used the 4 wheel drive on it last week. While shifting back from 4 wheel to 2 wheel I heard a clunk while it was shifting. I was traveling at about 5 mph. Shortly after the service 4x4 light came on. All of the indicator lights on the 4 wheel drive panel on the left side of the dash are out. I pulled the fuse and disconnected the battery in hopes that it would reset the computer but no luck. I think all it did was cleared out the code. My question is what do I check now?? I have read on a couple of sites replacing the 4 wheel drive controls or switches on the dash. I'm a do it yourselfer but that sounds like it may be a little out of my league! I appreciate any and all suggestions!

Thanks for your help in advance!

Bob

Ouch I don't think your supposed to shift on the fly like that. The truck should be stopped and in neutral. Which fuse did you pull? There is one in the dash fuse panel that, if blown, will not illuminate any of the selections on the switch.

4x4 service

I pulled the fuse on the panel on the side of the dash. That fuse was fine. The 4x4 transmission is made so you can shift on the fly. The owners manual states this. I've never had a problem until now...

Service 4x4 update

Here's the latest. I did some research on the net. I checked the transfer case fuse under the hood. It was blown. As soon as I replaced it I could hear the transfer case disengage. I started up the truck and all of the indicator lights for the 4 wheel drive were back on. I took it for a test drive and everything now is working fine. Kind of bizzare! My question now is what made the fuse blow while I was shifting from 4H back to 2H?

Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks!

Bob
