Question 4l60e

my question is i have a 97 sierra ext. cab with a 5.0 the tranny is shot can any 4l60e be used to replace it or does it have to be year specific thanks for your help.

From what I've heard, the 60's weren't too reliable, I think someone around here said they can go maybe 60,000 miles on one... So if you wnat to replace Trannys like you replace tires, I wouldn't go with this. What transmission is in your truck, sorry I'm not familiar with that year

it is a 4l60e
but they are really hard to find in decent shape and ive heard the same thing about them not lasting long i just dont know if it has to be replaced with the same year transmission or if a newer one will bolt up and work

Run a search on the site, I think there was a thread earlier someone wanted to know if they could pop a 4L80e on there and apparently you can it just takes a little bit of modifying.

Someone else should have an answer
