5.7 vortec cranks but no start
 

engine quit on the freeway got it home, it cranks but wont start.tried new crankshaft sensor, coil, and distributor . i can hear fuel pump running in tank. pulled battery by mistake and lost any stored codes in computer. 98 silverado with 5.7L vortec. timing chain still intact. any help appreciated thanks :confused:

Check your fuel pressure. Just because the pump is running doesn't mean it's giving you the right pressure.

Your trucks OBD II system should hold all codes even if the battery is disconnected

its getting fuel, all the injectors are working and u can smell the gas, pulled the computer and hooked into my friends silverado with exact eng. and tranny and same thing happened to his truck, would'nt start. what about getting another computer would i have to get new or could i get a used one and would it have to be programmed for the engine and tranny?

Did you put his computer in yours to see if yours started? You need to look at the numbers on the computer and get the same one.
