Body swap
 

I want to swap my 93 Z71 extended cab onto a 88 GMC 1 ton 4x4 chassis.
My wheel base is 141" and the 1 ton is 136". I want to fill the 5" gap between the bed and cab with a rollbar.
A 454 came out of the 1 ton. Only the engine is missing.
Will my 5.7 fit the 400 trans??
If your wondering. My IFS frontend is worn out and I don't want to invest anymore $$ into the IFS.
It just seems to me that swapping my cab to the 1 ton chassis will be easier and cheaper than buying all the necessary parts to convert to a solid axle on my existing truck.
You guys that have done any of this conversions please. I want your input. Thanks

There is going to be no gap....you are going the other way, if what you wrote above is right. You are going to a shorter wheelbase with a longer cab. Also, I dont imagine the rear cab mounts are going to line up.

Thanks for the response. My hearts broken now. I was within 20mins of the guys house to buy the 1 ton and someone beat me there. I was to late.
Anyway I have found 3/4 ton axles out of an 87 suburban rescue vehicle. Would this be a good choice for my 93 Z71??? He wants $450 for axles, springs and the steering box. Thanks.
