chatter in steering

just bought 01 1500hd crew cab 4x4. the day after i drove it home i noticed a slight bump feeling in the steering wheel. i assumed it was the start of cv going bad. the dealer told me it was the actual steering bar that goes throught the firewall binding up. dealer says this is a common problem and that even if it was taken out and lubed that the problem could come back. Any advice would be appreiciated.

The dealer is probably right sounds to me like the steering column. I have put over 10,000 on mine after lubing and it has not started again.

Yep, definetly the intermediate steering shaft. We get tons at the dealership. There's actaully a TSB on them now to replace them. I'm assuming you don't have warranty left on your 01. So lubing will have to do. In all honesty I haven't saw one come back in a while. As long as they are lubed right you shouldn't have another problem.

Yes,follow directions on the lube kit,and she'll stay quiet a good while.

That,or spend about 125 bucks on the "new" shaft
