engine noise
i have a 2002 gmc 1500hd with a 6.0. it has 250,000 kms on it but there is a slight tick in the engine sometimes. i was wondering if it could be lifters or rocker arm tip. its a big job to change lifters so i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

does it only do it on start up if so its the common piston slap that gm says is an ok thing and wont hurt nothing
but it also could be a sticky lifter or sticky valve also could possibly be a small exsausht leak if its small enaugh it will tick like that and its anoyying |
it is only when at operating temp. i am thinking oil pickup ofing or maybe lifter or rocker arm. i was looking for ideas because its a big job to change lifters.

I came to this forum looking for answers but while I'm here maybe I can answer Duane001. Could it be that you have stripped threads in a spark plug hole?

If it is for operating temperatures, are staying in cold place, then till the engine heats up ticking noise will remain. If it is so then it is an engine bearing damage.
