ignition Q

Hey,

I just bought my first truck, an '87 chevy s-10. Its kind of a beater but it runs pretty good for a 4 banger. I plan on restoring it little by little starting this weekend and I have run into my first problem. Somebody broke into the truck when the previous owner had it and attempted(very poorly) to hotwire it. So since the steering column is completely cracked and its kind of jerry rigged to start. (I have to push up this plastic lever on the steering column to get it to fire up.) I decided to start by replacing the whole ignition system.

My question is

What system do you recommend?
What parts do I need i.e. coils-wires-system etc......this is my first vehicle so bare with me http://forums.sporttruck.com/_siteco...bcode/wink.gif

thanks for the help
Gaston

First get a good repair manual, like Haynes. There are even manuals on-line that you can purchase like mitchell1,eautorepair.net . You can make your own wiring harness from the wiring diagrams in these manuals or you can purchase a new ignition system wire harness from Painless Auto Wiring..If you don't care about time then make your own harness - If you care purchase one, but an after market harness can be expensive. You can also go to a juck yard and rip a harness out of a juck truck....Good luck, take your time and try to do it yourself..
