TH350 help...

I have a 77 scottsdale with a 305 th350 setup. I just got the truck and got the motor running well and I came home only to park the truck and wake up the next morning with no tranny movement or engagement at all. I don't know much about these tranny's, so I ended up buying a th400 but it's from a 96 suburban and won't work with the electronic junk on it. So, when I woke up in the morning and the tranny quit working, I checked the linkage and it was fine. So I pulled the pan and the fluid looked ok, not great but not bad. Shifted fine before parking truck. Any ideas? I heard maybe replacing the filter would fix it... Is that true?

The TH350 is notorious for breaking pump gears.......check the line pressure...if you have pressure then you have either a converter failure or other internal failure.

Thanks, took forever to get a reply to that question at all. I just got another th350 with a converter from LKQ and I'm going to throw it in. I ended up changing the filter and fluid on the old one and tried to fire it up but had no luck. I noticed that when I revved up the motor though, it would die. My buddy told me it was the pump in the tranny that went out, and it was ceasing up and dying, hence killing the motor. So, I'm going to replace it with this newer one... Thanks for the help though, greatly appreciated.

The TH350 is a great tranny as a first rebuilder, if you ever thought about doing that

Honestly I never thought about that. Is it fairly simple, for a tranny to rebuild? I'm definitely mechanically inclined, so maybe it would make for a fun project...

Yeah its not too bad....and like I said if you are gonna start somewhere it might as well be a TH350 or the forbidin Ford C6...they are very basic trannys........

Do you have a suggestion for a place to get parts for it? Maybe somewhere that sells stage 2 shift kits that I could put in it too, maybe someplace that also sells a rebuild kit, if that's something that I need or if it even works like that? LOL
