Default 2014 Sierra 4wd brake problems.

Hi guys and gals, first time poster here. I am having a problem with my truck eating brake pads. I have had it for 2 1/2 years and about to change rear brakes for the 3rd time. When I took the pads off last time it looked like someone dug pieces of the pad out. It’s hard to explain but I’ll post a few pics. It only happens to the drivers rear pad. What could be causing this, I don’t want to just throw parts at it?

If your truck is consistently wearing out the brake pads, particularly on the driver's rear side, and you've noticed chunks missing from the pad, it's essential to identify the underlying cause rather than randomly replacing parts. While it's difficult to ascertain without seeing the pictures, here are a few potential reasons for such brake pad wear:

Caliper Issue: A malfunctioning or sticking caliper can cause uneven brake pad contact, leading to excessive wear. Inspect the caliper for proper operation, ensuring it moves freely and applies even pressure on the brake pad.

Rotor Condition: Check the condition of the rotor on the driver's rear side. If it's unevenly worn, excessively grooved, or damaged, it can contribute to irregular brake pad wear. In such cases, resurfacing or replacement may be necessary.

Brake System Imbalance: An imbalance in the overall brake system, such as uneven pressure distribution or improper adjustment of the brake components, can result in excessive wear on one specific wheel. A professional inspection and potential brake system adjustment can help resolve this issue.

Suspension or Alignment Problems: Faulty suspension components or misalignment can lead to uneven tire contact with the road, causing abnormal brake pad wear. Consider checking the suspension system and ensuring proper wheel alignment.

To accurately diagnose and address the specific cause of the brake pad wear issue, I recommend to consult with a qualified mechanic or brake specialist. They can examine the vehicle, assess the pictures you provide, and provide a targeted solution, ultimately saving you from unnecessary parts replacement and ensuring proper brake performance. I usually use Wallwork Truck Center for such situations.
