bed swapping??

My questions is:

Independant of brand is it possible on any brand to swap a short bed onto a long bed truck? I am looking for a diesel 4x2 with a reg cab and short bed. Well they pretty much dont exist from what I can tell. Can the swap be done with relative ease?

The easiest ones to turn a long bed into a shortbed are the older trucks. We have done a few 81-87 Chevy trucks. The only thing is that the Diesels in those era trucks SUCK! What would be cool is to somehow stick a Duramax in a newer stepside reg. cab truck. That would be bad ass!!!! Or even an 8.1 in a shortbed reg. cab truck. Yeah Yeah Yeah!!!

I'm thinking that drivetrain swapping would be easier, what do you mean by "Indipendant brand"

Independent of brand is what I meant to say. Basically meaning Ford, Chevy, Dodge. Is the difference in frame length? Or mounting locations? Would it be possible to alter the frame to fit a short bed? I am basically thinking if you could find a long box reg cab diesel and the. Pick up a short bed from a junk yard or something.

Short bed . . .

Just rear half the long box truck. . .

Cut frame behind the cab.

Add short rear half !

Done deal . . .

yeah with welding it requires makeing sure the frame doesent get tweeked in the process of welding its alot easier and most likely cheaper to swap power trains
also with the frame it will have to be inspected by the dot or motor vehical department and may get a new vin number which will result in having to get a new tittle thats what my autobody guy told me when i wanted to have my frame work done on my old 88 i sold
