Finding Free Tools!
Being blessed with good eyes, I have, over the course of many years, picked up numerous tools from the highway. Apparently, folks sometimes leave their tools on the motor, the frame, or other parts of the vehicle. I still have tools (pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, ratchets, pry bars, etc.) that I grabbed off the road as long as 40 years ago. Of late though, it appears the rising cost of tools has caused mechanics and owners to be a bit more careful about what's left behind when they close that hood. In fact, my free tool finding has been going through a several year minor drought, and I'm finding fewer and fewer.
So yesterday, working on the rear driver-side wiring harness (tail lights, etc,) under my '93 GMC 1500, I caught another. The wiring runs in the frame member, and as I reached to fish out a wire end, my hand lit upon a totally covered with greasy mud STANLEY 3/8ths inch ratchet. I knew it wasn't mine for 2 reasons, number 1), I don't remember owning it, and more importantly, number 2), it wasn't a CRAFTSMAN. It did however, beneath the thick coating of mud, grease and oil, look mite near new. So, if you have any tool harvesting stories, I'm certainly enjoy hearing about them... I am and remain sincerely yours, Julabee Jones |
