General fan clutch question
 

So I suggested to my husband that was just replace the clutch instead of bypassing it with a flex fan. His response was that it costs way too much and that the clutch is robbing the truck of horse power.

Is this possible??

A new fan clutch for his truck will run between $30-$100 depending on which brand and what exact options he has. I would bet it would cost more to run a flex fan. A fan clutch that operates properly should not really rob any more power than a flex fan - where a flex fan obviously flexes with higher rpms taking the drag off of the engine a fan clutch will slip at higher rpms accomplishing the same affect with less noise and more reliable cooling. Just my opinion.

I agree wit Shamrock, a thermal clutch fan will mostly engage during idle, once you get rolling, ram air takes over and this creates less drag on the motor. Non thermal clutches spin all the time.
