Looking for advice on truck
Hi. I am not looking for a brand vs brand really. I am caught in a hard place on a decision. I need to lower my payments and outgoing money per month, so th wife asks me to look into trading truck in on new with rebates and such, also some used. Not going with new. I have a 2003 Ford f 350 xlt 4x4 crew cab short bed drw 6.0 diesel. I have found a very sharp 03 chevy silverado 2500 hd ext cab lt fully loaded southern comfort custom package it is 2 wheel drive with 56000 miles. My ford has 111,000 on its diesel.
I plow snow, and landscape, so nine or more months of the year the chevy would do great, can pull plus I'd have the luxury of the interior and other fancy items, easier to drive and park the chevy, the wife would like the chevy better. I could always find a cheap 4x4 later to do my plowing with, which is what should be done anyway instead of the wear and tear on any nice truck. Plus diesel here is 1.00 to 1.35 more here than reg fuel, I am guessing the chevy being gas and only 2wd would get better mileage as well, so that is more savings. What do you guys think about the 2 trucks, would you just grit teeth and keep ford and high payments, high fuel, not a family friendly commuter, or get the chevy for luxury, and savings on payment, fuel and is more of a daily driver that can still tow, and haul decent loads? Thanks much to all! I am new here and hope this isnt out of place |
If lowering payments and fuel cost is your main goal, then looking at the Chevy makes sense.
Your current Ford F-350 diesel is strong, but diesel fuel cost and repair cost can add up. If you only plow in winter, you could use a cheap older 4x4 just for plowing, like you said. Then use the Chevy as the daily truck for most of the year. The Chevy 2500 gas will tow and haul fine for landscaping and normal work. Just remember it is 2 wheel drive, so in snow or mud it can be limited. If you choose the Chevy, check the frame and suspension for rust or past damage. Also check service records and test drive it under load if possible. If you decide to keep the Ford, it can still do all jobs, but cost per month stays the same. You can also check prices and compare trucks on online marketplaces that offer 360VIR™ Exterior Spin With Tagging so you can see full exterior views before you drive out to look. This may help you feel sure before trading. |
