Looking For a Project
 

So I've decided that I would like a project truck for the winter. I have not done this before so have many questions before I buy a truck.


First of all, I am NOT loyal to any make
second of all I have decided I want a truck that is running, even though I would want to do an engine swap at some point.
Also, I want electronics to be minimal, no computer in the truck would be ideal, so older the better (I think). I'm not too worried about rust
1. I'm wondering if there's much more knowledge required for a 4 wheel drive tranny than a two, (simpler the better)




2. What older trucks (Ford Chevy) have readily available and relatively inexpensive parts? 3. What years have less problems than others? I'm hoping to stay older than 80s on the trucks. thanks for the replies

No computers, then you want something pre 88, at least as far as GM is concerned anyways.
As for rust, find the best body that you can for your money....I find it a lot easier to replace mechanical parts than doing body work. With bodywork, it seems the more you dig, the worse it gets.
For my money, I would look for an older Chevy/GMC....good trucks and parts are generally cheaper. The 70s Fords are great trucks too
