Vacuum Hose Assembly/Disassembly ?????

I am getting ready to replace my distributer, intake & exhaust manifolds, cam and carb. I need to pull most of my hoses to do this but its a little bit intimidating (CA smog, lots of vacuum lines, etc). Usually, no matter how hard I try, I will end up reassembling something incorrectly. I was wondering if you guys could chime in with what methods you use to keep this sort of thing straight and have a worry-free reassembly. Thanks.

what i do is i use different color zip ties on the hoses and if possible on the place where they go if you can get a zip tie on there use different color tape or get some colored pencils and color some paper the same color and stick it in there but not to much
i have used all three methods when i was in the army when it came to wireing it saved my a** quite a bit when i was first learning the ropes so to speak
i would also suggest takeing lots of pictures lots and lots of pictures before you start and also from different angles so you can see where they go
just my ideas here hope some work for you
