3 speed manual column shifter- '71 Chevy C10

OK so here's whats up. I have a 1971 Chevy pickup with a manual column shifter (3 speed) and I was having problems with my shift linkage getting bound up and I had a ton of play in my shifter. I replaced all of my bushings on the linkage up top and down at the transmission. I also took the entire steering column out and apart and cleaned up everything I could. I put it all together and put back in the truck. I had fixed the original problem but now I have play in the steering wheel area of the column. Like when I go to shift and pull the shifter towards me, I can pull it too far and I get movement in the steering wheel. Now I dont know if I just didnt get it put together right (because the blinker section of the column seems to be turned more counter clockwise and has some play) or if I have a part missing or what. Im just not sure how to find out how to fix it. Didnt know if anyone knows these shifters inside and out or if someone has had this problem before. Any advice would help. Thanks.

Hey Humble. You have your blinker housing installed incorrectly. There are 3 bumps on the column shaft that the blinker housing aligns with & fits down over. After you line it up, go ahead & push it down & twist slightly to the right so that the bumps hold the blinker housing down. It will still feel like it can turn until you screw your blinker switch into pace & the screws fron the blinker switch will finish securing the housing & prevent it from turning or interfering with your shifter sleeve.
