76 k20 383 stroker backfiring, cutting out

i've got a 1976 chevy k20 truck with a 383 stroker motor in it, if it sits for a few hours it will not start without being fully choked.. when idling with the choke on (dont have a tach but maybe 20-2500 rpm? its pretty high) it backfires pretty bad but if you unchoke it before its warm it just stalls (40+ degree weather). then once it warmed up if you punch the throttle it just completely cuts out and stalls if ya dont let off.. but if ya feather it and let it build up it'll rev all the way up.. i'm thinking plugged fuel line/filter? and then when you put it in gear and try to take off you have to get it revved way up and slip the clutch and maybe it'll take off without stalling (timing?). been sitting since september, had tons of power and no trouble starting when i parked it.. any ideas?

dont know much about the motor all the work was done when i bought the truck. carb is an edelbrock 650
