Feels like something's locking up! Please read.
This little issue is driving me nuts. When I coast up to a stop sign or light it's all good but when I go to release the brake to take off, It feels like something's locked up and letting go maybe like there's slack somewhere in the suspension, or the transmission, or is it a brake issue??????? Or is it normal? I just started noticing it about 6 months ago..... My mom's 99 Tahoe did the same thing and we never figured out what that was either. It got new brakes and rotors and still did it....
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and what the heck is it???? Eddie 2004 Silverado Crew Cab 5.3L 2WD |
I had a mid 90's truck doing that and it was the drive shaft. I guess the shaft that goes into the transmission had lost its lube and would slightly bind until the brakes were released and it would give me a slight clunk before taking off. It was simple enough to repair - just remove the shaft, lube it with some bearing grease, and reinstall it - problem solved.
My brothers Tahoe was doing something similar, but his ended up being a shock bushing was bad and the shock was moving slightly in the lower mount giving a nice clunk. The 2 felt identical while driving. The only difference with his was when you came to a complete stop it would take a couple seconds and then "clunk" the shock would settle back down in the mount. |

The unfortunate part was that it took (2) trips back to the dealer for THEM to figure it out! In the meantime, our shop had a truck like mine, and a Tahoe that developed the same issue, which is why I couldn't understand the dealer's not being able to pinpoint this problem the first time! |
Cool!!! That makes sense, I'll give that a shot... Thanks Guys... I'm lovin this website!!!!!
