Ford Raptor or GMC Sierra 2500 HD?
 

Hi All,

I've been lurking for a while and enjoy the wide range of topics this site offers. I have found myself at a tough decision as I look for my next vehicle. I have 2 kids (17 months and 3 yrs old) so need crew cab. Want new vehicle. Majority of driving will be as a daily driver with occasional towing of my 68 Corvette. Would like to get an enclosed trailer for vette in future but reality is probably an open car trailer due to cost. I drive 34 miles a day for work (right outside NYC). Parking garage height limit is 7ft which clears both trucks below by inches. I am constantly borrowing friends and family pickup trucks to do work on house and haul around odds and ends.

I've narrowed it down to the two below:

2014 Ford Raptor Tuxedo Black on black. 6.2ltr V8 Crew Cab.
411hp. Regular Unleaded gas
5.5ft bed
801A luxury package (leather interior, rear view camera, tinted glass, powered rear sliding window, sun roof etc)

2015 GMC Sierra 2500 HD 6.0 Ltr gas or Duramax diesel/allison transmission
Crew Cab
6.5ft bed
leather seats, 40/20/40 front bench. 60/40 rear bench. sun roof, rear view camera, tinted glass etc.
Trailer pkg with trailer brake
Towing capacity 10k lbs and up
$50-58k

I love the look of the Raptor. Meaty wheels fill wheel wells nicely. Car drives great. Does lack some get-up-and-go off the line given its a heavy truck. I don't mind the short bed. Interior is very nice. Expecting 9-14mpg.

Sierra square body is nice. More "truck" looking. Interior on these are amazing. Leaning towards diesel for mpg regardless whether towing load or not and resale value. Only reason i'm entertaining 6.0 gas version is price of regular gasoline is much much cheaper than diesel at the present moment. Have no idea what to expect mph wise with diesel or 6.0 ltr.

Wife loves the Sierra look and "likes" the Raptor. I'm torn. I love the Raptor look and wow factor however acknowledge the Sierra is more "realistic" given my needs. Diesel starts to veer away from the "realistic" factor but am hanging hope for mpg and resale. Wish these trucks offered cylinder deactivation like my brothers new Ram 1500 express 5.7ltr hemi.

What would you do and why?

My vote was for the Duramax simply because I drive a 07 Silverado crew cab short box as an everyday driver and occasionally haul an 18 ft open car hauler.

Fuel here in northern Ontario does the same thing. It fluctuates, some times diesel is significantly cheaper then gas and on occasion gas is cheaper.
I subscribed to a commercial diesel fuel card and I get diesel fuel $0.02 cheaper then the pump price.
I average 13 mpg everyday (if I can behave)
Towing is around 10 or 11 mpg
