Truck Forums - Locked out with engine running???

Local politician has a '63 Bonneville convert. Top wont go up anymore. He wanted me and Donna to drive this car in a Christmas parade. I parked my '18 GMC in a side street behind the school band bus and got out to look for him and the car. Found them....went back to get Donna. She is sitting in the truck, engine running, in park, heater on. I helped her out and closed the right door and heard the lock click closed. Still running, in neutral........

I had a key under the running board, other than the inconvenience of wallowing around on my back to find it, everything worked out. How many of you have an exterior key or fob to get back in when the key is locked inside.???

I watched my '11 truck closely after that. Doors lock only when you move the shift lever from Park.......'18 does the same.?????

Is there any way to defeat the automatic locking?? I can't see the need for it anyway, we drove cars with out that for a 100 years.
