Default New truck $1000 or under?

It's my senior year in high school and I want to get an older truck that I can drive to school and possibly work on every once in a while.

I am willing to spend $1000 - maybe little more.

I would like some advice on what kind of truck is reliable and what year and make I should get.

Any kind of advice will help me.

Thanks,

Vince

I am in the business and get asked for cheap trucks all the time. Here is what I usually tell people. Instead of buying a truck for $1000 or so that will most likely immediately need alot of money invested in it, try and save a little more money and get something that is nicer already. It seems (in my experience) there is a HUGE difference in a $1000 truck and a $2000-$2500 truck. Yet that $1000 truck will suck up $1000 in repairs very quicky and still won't be as nice. Unless you don't plan on driving the truck right away and are looking for something to wrench on. Anyways just my opinion.

Thanks that makes sense.

Now are there certain things that I should look for in the truck or look to see that it doesn't have?
