Old truck for 'farming'

Hello from a newbie here.

First, I am not sure which forum to post to, as they're all car maker specific.
Second, I am buying a few acres of land and hoping to start working on it.

I need a truck to haul stuff. I am new at trucks, as I generally prefer a passenger vehicle. So the truck will be used for "work" only, not a commuter (MPG not very important to me).

So needs will be to haul firewood, wood, pull a trailer with dirt/compost/maybe small machinery. Eventually, it may haul a camper occasionally, but that's low on my priority list.

I would prefer stick shift. I do understand that it might be more challenging in a truck, but I'd like the truck to be as simple as possible, especially if I buy an old one, so that the potential mechanical issues are minimal. I've driven stick for 10yrs+

I've also read that 4x4 is almost never needed and is "high maintenance". I am looking for some recommendation on that.

What would you recommend?
Other than rust and leaking oil, what else should I look for when evaluating an old vehicle?

I've found the following on CL in 3-5K range

88 Dodge D250 5.2 v8, manual, 160K, 2x4, 3K
91 Ford F-250, 7.3 Diesel, 130K, 4x4, 4K
89 Ford F-350, 460 V8, 170k, 4x4, 5K

Probably any of those trucks mentioned would do the job. You could probably even get a 1/2 ton truck to do the duties you mentioned.

I'd find a friend who knows a little about trucks to go with you and take a look before you buy. I would also get 4wd if you are off road all the time as well...good luck!
