Default pulling front differential

I have an 89 Chevy 4x4, i want to rebuild my front differential. I have pulled drive shaft and cvc shafts. Seperated the cvc's to put back in wheel huds. Now can I take out the hole diferential and still drive my truck or is the way it bolted in acting as a cross member for the frame?

The wheel bearing/hubs need to have the outter CV installed to keep preload on the bearings. Other than that you shoud be able to drive it around, the front axle assembly is not a structural part.
