Default steering pr0blem

Hi Folks,
My 91 chevy c1500 [ext. cab]. my problem is...that the steering is very loose---when I turn the wheel it takes about 5inches of turning the steering wheel before the truck start turning. In addition to that...the truck wonders back and forth, so I have to really pay attention just to keep the truck on my lane. I've tried to adjust the steering box--with very little results and as far as the wondering...I have not looked into that yet. I was hoping that I can get some info-from you guys and go from there. I do not drive it very much for this reason.
Thanks all!--any help is appreciated.

Don't know what all the parts are called or really anything. But my grandpas dodge had that problem a little play in the steering wheel where you turn it and don't move. He had to replace the whole I want to say steering column or something like that. sorry I can't be more specific. I just know he spent some money to get it replaced.
