Toyota tundra for Chevy silverado

Hello all. I have a situation I’d like for others input on. I currently own a 2020 Silverado 5.3 with 58k miles on it and I love the truck. However, I am in a place to where I need to be saving some money to pay other debt off. My truck is currently my biggest monthly payment, and to rid of the payment would be a huge help. My father owns a 2008 Toyota tundra 5.7 with roughly 120k miles on it (paid off). He is offering to take over payments and ownership of the truck and gift me the paid off tundra with $5k cash on top. I currently have a daily driver sedan I use for work. My biggest concern is every summer, my family and I take the Chevy on a 7 hour drive for vacation. The vehicle we would be using for vacation now would be the tundra. My father has taken immaculate care of the truck and drives it probably once a week to the landfill and back. I am concerned on the reliability of the truck and if it is a safe vehicle to take on an annual 7 hour drive. The truck is currently mechanically sound with no past issues. Can anyone vouch for this sounding like a safe bet? Thanks in advance.

My family has owned a few Toyotas and they are solidly reliable, we still have a '07 Land Cruiser with 160k and it runs like a charm. I wouldn't have problems taking it on a 7 hour road trip, but, it might be best to have a mechanic take a look at it.

It sounds like a good deal, especially if you're looking to save money and pay off debt. The 2008 Tundra with 120k miles, especially if it's been well-maintained like your father’s, is known to be a reliable truck. If it’s mechanically sound and has no issues, it should handle the 7-hour drive for vacation without problems. You can always get a full inspection done to ease your mind before making the switch. Plus, you’d have the extra $5k for any future maintenance or repairs. It seems like a safe and smart move to help with your finances.
