Wornout 2000 GMC Z-71
Hello from Memphis!
I joined this and another GM truck forum for some help I'll soon need. I just picked up a 2000 GMC Sierra SLT Z-71... I'm actually a long time Ford man, Having had serveral ford trucks over the years. Though, I did have a beautiful 1968 GMC back in the late 80's.
So, I bought this 2000GMC helping out a friend and myself too...Well, maybe not. I got this truck from the original owner, it has 223,000 miles, it needed a fuel pump which I replaced with good results. Now long story short; the owner just drove the wheels off this truck, EVERYTHING is original, encluding the radiator fluid. it has all the nice bells and wistles, but unfortunitly most are broke. The motor does purr like a kitten, I asked her why she didnt replace things when they broke... she just didnt unless to kept it runnng. SO, here i am with a very worn out truck in need of some love.
Thank you for your time!

These trucks hold up very well. My 2000 has 355 000 kilometers. The previous owner did not maintain this truck either. The fuel filter was completely blocked and the spark plugs had no center electrode. Fixed everything and it cleaned up well.
Welcome!
Yeah, it is amazing how well trucks hold up... and how people absolutely beat the crap out them.
A dealer maintained car nears the end of it's life usually between 150 and 200k or becomes expensive to maintain. A beat up truck with 200k on it is no problem!
I bought my 2001 GMC Duramax with 330k miles on it from a Tool and Die shop and they drove the wheels off it. It was dealer maintained when something broke, but they dropped 5000lb molds inthe back of it and one time even punctured the cap through the seats with the 12' forks on the big forklift loading something. Long story short, I sold it with 380k on it for $5k, and the guy used it as a farrier truck until it had well over 500k on it with a 2500lb box on the back.
Then he TRADED IT IN!
Anyways, Trucks last, end of story! Hope you enjoy it here

Yes sir, this thing is built like a tank! It just needs some TLC. I've got to replace all the oils$$$ plugs/wires and see were its at. like I said, it still had the original radiator fluid, so... I really don't believe its ever been in four wheel drive, kind of scary. thanks for the reply.

Yes sir it has held up well, considering. this thing is build tuff and only time will tell, I'm trying to be positive about it. I was a little overwhelmed about it all, just so much is missing or broke. I'm sure that this forum will be a good knowledge base for this old shade-tree guy! Thanks!

With something like that truck maintained that way, one is almost afraid to start treating it differently then what it it is accustom to.
Can you tell I'm a little superstitious.
If you replace the fuel filter with a fresh new one the fuel pump may break.
You flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat it may start over heating. etc.
I'm just kidding, I'm sure it's gonna love all the new attention it is gonna get and then serve you well
Again, welcome. Glad you joined our happy lil family
