Default Cheap Dodge, But worth it?

So first off, I want to say: "My girlfriend's cousin is an idiot." He has a 2001 Dodge pickup with the 3.9 V6. He said his truck was running hot one day so he decided to just keep going. Of course this created a problem. He had to get it towed home. He said it started missing then it died. The truck is in my girlfriend's back yard. I haven't checked the oil to see if there is coolant in the oil but I'm betting there is. The other day he tried to start it and it would keep turning over, acting like it was about to crank, then it would start and run for maybe two seconds then die again. He said he would take 500 for it. It only has 80k and I figured that if all it needed was heads or head gaskets, then I would come out pretty good. What else might have torn up on the truck? Do yall think this is a head or head gasket problem or something else? Should I even try this adventure? Of course, I can replace the heads and gaskets pretty easy so that's not a problem if it is that. The truck turns over fine. It didn't seize, that is for sure. 500 is a pretty good price even if I ended up having to replace the motor. What do yall think? __________________

2wd. A v6 with a 4wd is a nightmare IMO.
