Firestone Steel Tex Tires

Well we had a very close call over the weekend and I just wanted to pass on the information that I have found. On my 1997 Suburban 2500 we are/were running a set of 245/75-16 Firestone Steel Tex "E" rated tires. On the way back from the lake (pulling our boat) the right rear tire simply let loose. The entire tread peeled off like a recap you see laying on the highway from a big rig. The tire only had about 1000 miles on it and the pressure gets checked regularly. I had actually checked it the night before as I try to do every night before hauling anything as a part of my pre-trip inspection. I did an internet search and this seems to be a very common thing with this tire and there are a lot of stories just like mine. Luckily it wasn't a steer tire and we were able to limp it to a safe place to pull over. All I can say is I am done with Firestone! I just wanted to pass on the warning.
