Will Straight Pipes Damage the Engine?

I have a 1984 K10 that I just dropped a brand spanking new crate 350 into. My old engine blew a piston due to warped heads so I had to replace it. When I bought it 6 months ago I had the mufflers cut off so it would have true duel pipes. All I have is standard exhaust manifolds and about 14 ft of pipe dueled out to behind the fender well on each side, no cats, no mufflers. I have heard both sides of the argument, but some people keep telling me that straight pipes will damage my valves. Some say it is only if you drive it really hard. I really dont want to put mufflers on it because it sounds so good, but I dont want to mess up my new engine with it only having 100 miles on it. So will it damage it?
