Generally the GMT400 trucks (88-98) use 5w-30 oil. Might want to think about high mileage oil as you are getting up there.

As for the steering, these trucks seem to be that way...if...

Welcome....When you say ice cold, do you mean the line going to the compressor is iced up?....Usually, that is a sign of the refrigerant being low. I think you need to get the system checked to see...

I do the same, except I use 1/2 oil and 1/2 undercoating.....I have an undercoating sprayer (about $20 at a tool store) ....Doesnt drip as much, sticks to the floor panels better and longer

You need to read the code......94 is OBD1, code readers are cheap for them....some people use a paper clip to short across 2 contacts to do it.

The pre 96 OBD1 system, you could erase the codes by disconnecting the battery. After 96 OBD2, it retains the codes in memory......you need a device to erase codes....ie:scanner, computer program
