New to the forum-- what kind of mods do you guys have that helps improve your mpg???
 

well first off I am new to the forum...

I am looking at getting a new Chevy 1500 Crew Cab. I am curious to know what you guys are getting mpg, and I am sure I am much like you all and like to customize my ride. so I am think of a little lift or leveling kit and what ever will help me improve my mpg. what kind of experience do you guys have.

Tires, a tonneau cover and driving style are probably the 3easiest things that will help improve fuel economy. Decreasing rolling resistance, cheating the wind and improving aerodynamics and not running wot all the time will increase your mpg. Also, keeping an eye on tire pressues helps.

2010 Sierra crew cab z71 5.3 six speed Driving the speed limit flat road no wind ac on I get 9.5 L/100km or 24 mpg us. Also I have a tonneau. Lifting and driving over the speed limit you could get numbers like 14-17 mpg but that is the draw back to that lifted look no aero dynamics

I've added a new Air Force cold air intake system (similar to a K & N kit), new power chip, larger exhaust pipes (Gibson Pro), Uridium plugs, new coil wires, higher octane fuel, bed cover, and better tires. I kid you not, I'm averaging around 18-20 mpg in the city and 22-24 mpg on the highway. I have the 4.8 liter engine that sounds like a 6.2! Lots of power, acceleration, and big engine sound. Gets a lot of looks.

The higher the truck is off the ground will reduce mpg due to wind resistance and lack of aerodynamics.
My old 08 5.3 would get 15 ish city, 22 highway and high 28's on the highway if I stayed 60 mph or less. I had a banks CAI with a GM Accessories performance exhaust system. I changed the tires to general at2's and lost mpg

My 2011 Sierra with the 6.2 gets about 11mpg city and 18 ish driving 70 mph, and 20-22 driving 60 mph. Recent camping trip dragging my @7500 travel trailer I got 8 mpg on the highway doing 70. I really just need to slow down. At one point on the highway I was passing in the left lane with the trailer doing 85 and the instant economy number was 2.4mpg. LoL

Mythbusters disproved that theory... It increases fuel efficiency so minimally but nothing maybe more than 1 or 2 tenths of a MPG. Driving with the tailgate down or removed actually lowered your MPG.


Make sure your tires are properly inflated, or even a little higher than normal. This will make a difference for MPG

There is what they call a "stickie" at the top of the forum here that has a lot of tips of increasing fuel mileage............

Hey guys I am also new to the forum as of 15 minutes ago and I also read the stickys at the top of the forum page. unfortunately I have a 1994 5.7 v8 4x4 and the stickies were for 99 and up. I also need better fuel economy or maybe ya'll can tell me whats wrong considering I am getting 10mpg and thats highway driving.
