New guy with 07 Silvy

Hey guys, my name is Josh. I am from Mississippi. I have a 2007 2wd crew cab z71 silverado with the 5.3L. It is 100% bone stock. I have always been into racing and I sold my 550rwhp mustang and got this truck. So needless to say, it feels like a dog. It is going to be a while before I am able to get another car. I was wondering if this truck has any potential at all. I am not too familiar with ls motors but I understand what it takes to make power. I am wondering if any of you guys have done any power mods to your trucks and if so how much of a gain did you see? I am really wanting to stay away from doing heads and a cam. I know that an intake (cai) and exhaust and a tune would be the first things. Nitrous would probably be the next step. I am just wondering if its a possibility to get this big heavy thing down in the 12s in the 1/4. Sorry for the length of the post. Just getting my intentions out there. I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Can a moderator please move this to the Silverado forum?

Why exactly did you get a big beefy truck for racing? Lol Trucks are for towing, hauling and pulling not racing... But if you want more power and speed, get a weight reduction kit, buy some nos, cold air intake, HHo fuel cell, get the correct tires and other than that just look at the Horse power guide, they have tons of info. Good Luck!
