04 Tacoma, Timing Belt or Chain? When to change?
 

Hello all,
My Brother has a 2004 Tacoma with almost 200K miles on it, and he is wondering if he needs to change the timing belt. I told him I thought the Toyota trucks have timing chains that can go for almost 500K. But he thinks it may be a belt, and should have change a long time ago.

It's a V-6. Is it a belt or a chain?

The 04 was the cutoff year. Up until that year, the v6 had a belt. From 2005 on, the Tacoma switched to the chain. Have him get it changed.
