Looking to buy a small/midsize truck, Tacoma?

Hello everyone! I am new here and so not know a whole lot about trucks. I will be moving to Reno, NV in August. I will be working in the field and will need 4x4 capability and will likely get a camper top for whatever I end up getting.
I do not have a huge budget, definitely less than $10,000 and looking for closer to 6k or 7k. Essentially I am looking at trucks that are ~ 10 to 15, even 20 yrs old. My dad has a 2019 Tundra and loves the damn thing. I have heard from a lot of my coworkers over the years that Toyotas are built to last a lifetime if you take care of them. And so I am leaning Toyota but I have also heard good things about the Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger.

I am curious as to what you all would recommend for durability and reliability while also keeping my costs down.

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!!

Hi Otis!
Welcome to the truck community! You have a pretty good plan for your move.

If you're looking at either a small or midsize truck, then Ford is a great choice.

You should be able to find some older models within your budget of $6,000 to $7,000. Just make sure you have any truck checked out for condition and service history (realls as well).

Toyota is a great option, but can be expensive to fix plus they are really not made for work or hauling. Get a Toyota if you want to drive a truck but never use it as intended .

Good luck with your search, and happy new adventure in Reno!
