What does 4x2 mean?
Pardon my ignorance, but what does 4x2 mean? Is that essentially the same as 2-wheel drive? I'm in the market for a new truck and I'm currently considering the Tundra, Silverado, and maybe even the F-150. I'm leaning more towards the Tundra right now. I noticed on the Toyota website that they advertise 4x2 and 4x4 Tundra models and the same for Ford. Chevrolet just shows 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.
Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks in advance. |
Yes 4X2 and 2WD are the same thing. Good luck with your search!

I recently bought a 2010 Tundra 4x4 and love it. Had to have the 4wheel drive for the snow but you can certainly save a few bucks if you dont need it!

As long as you don't live in Arizona or anything, 4wheel drive is a nice commodity to have simply for resale. A 4x4 truck will almost always hold it's value better than a 2x4 and anymore the fuel economy difference is almost nonexistent
Just my $.02 |
I agree, 4x4 is definitely the way to go. Here in Colorado, we see many 2 wheel drive truck owners move from Arizona. In the winter, it is quite comical to see them with many bags of sand in their truck beds.

The differences between a 4x4 and 4x2 vehicle is simple really. 4x4 means the vehicle has four wheels and that all four wheels are mechanically driven somehow. 4x2 means the vehicle has four wheels but only two wheels are mechanically driven.

I have to agree with the other drivers, that while there may be a cost difference, having a truck with Toyota 4X4 is worth the extra upfront cost. I had a 4X2 a couple years ago, and my truck got stuck in the snow and mud more than a few times.

The Tundra Double Cab 4X4 has a safe and refined interior that includes two 12V auxiliary power outlets for electronic devices, along with 3-point seat belts and child-protector rear door locks.

Exactly 4x2 and 2WD are the same thing...

That's an really good solution been find out.
