Rust Protection
 

Here's a quick rundown of how I protected some of my vehicles from rust- the old fashioned way:

All vehicles:

Once a year, usually in the fall, I mix together a mixture of 3/4 used motor oil and 1/4 diesel fuel and strain out any of the chunks. I then pour it into a portable sprayer (Like you would put round-up in) and spray the entire underside of my vehicles. You will want to park on gravel for awhile until it stops dripping, but the oil and dirt will create a waterproof seal that won't allow the water to penetrate during the winter.

88-98 GMT 400 GM Pickups:

Take the speaker in the B pillar out of the hole and pour a half quart of motor oil down inside of the door on either side. These trucks are notorious for rusting at the cab corners, and it usually starts from the inside out.

TJ Jeep Wrangler:

Generally these will rust on the inside of the front fender. If you climb underneath you can find a small shelf that allows water inside... once again, you can just pour motor oil in there, but also add some sand or dirt to keep it in place.

I do the same, except I use 1/2 oil and 1/2 undercoating.....I have an undercoating sprayer (about $20 at a tool store) ....Doesnt drip as much, sticks to the floor panels better and longer

I don't know how long the coating will last, recently had my frame done. Hoping it will keep any developing rust and corrosion from spreading.

Thanks for sharing your idea. I usually use rust converter to protect rusted parts. But I notice that once it dries up the metal becomes brittle.

I don't know it will work or not but I will try. Yes, rust is a big issue.
