2002 2500HD 4x4
First time poster would appreciate a step in the right direction. I have a 2002 chevy truck that is getting tired in the motor department. I found a rebuilt long block for under 2 grand. I was kindof hoping I could find a new crate motor to use. Are there any particular years that are interchangeable? I worry about the computer not being compatable. I wouldn't mind even buying a Summit engine to drop in, not looking for a major performance upgrade stock had enough power for me though a few extra ponys wouldn't hurt. Thanks much for any and all help.

Any engine from the 99-02 GMC Chevy pickups should fit just fine. In 03, the trucks received a slight face-lift but I am unsure if they had any sort of technology upgrades with regard to the on board computer
If you could find a 99-02 6.0 V8 that would be perfect
Or go crazy and drop a Duramax/Allison in her

Well I called Summit Racing to see if they had anything that would work. My luck there are several motors that were that size but for that year nothing. He did say that I would definatelly want the one that was specific to my truck itself for the computer to be compatable. I was directed to the chevy dealership that informed me they were backordered but found a couple dealers in my state that had one they might be willing to ship for free to the dealer near me. It was almost 4 grand and a little more to install it. Even the parts guy said they must be made of gold for that price. If I'm going to spend that much I might as well spend 20 more for a completely new truck. He did say that the year in question was strange that there weren't more available. He told me of at least 5 different motors that were used, all 6.0 liter but had minor differences I'm guessing were specific to what part of the country they were meant for, That's just my guess but I'm in CA so I'm sure my motor is different from other states with less restrictive air quality standards. Thanks for input, JD
