Question 2002 duramax 4x4 crewcab service engine soon light

I bought this truck in Palm springs and drove it to Olympia,Wa. when I got to Reno the next day sometime the light came on.When I entered the mountain area on highway 395 and started using the 4Hi 4x4 on the truck with the snowy roads the light went out.But then again I read the manual and it could be the fuel I'm filling up with?? Anyway, after going back to 2 wheel drive and losing elevation the light came back on. What is going on with this truck? Any takers? Thanks Chris

You will need a OBD-II reader or scan tool. You can pick up a basic code reader that will show you what codes have set and basic emission information from a autoparts store in your area.

Or if you have a wal-mart near you, I was able to pick one up there for $99.99 they are well worth the investment.

Cool 2002 duramax

Okay, will do asap. Now tonight the damn thing is stuck in like 2nd or 3rd gear. I checked the tranny fluid and it is low. Will this cause it to not shift properly? It makes a loud noise when I shift it in and out of gear also.

Thanks,Chris
