Default conversion from gas to diesel

Hey Guys, new to the forum, just bought a 1993 GMC sonoma 2x4 2.5L 4 Cylinder. I am going to rebuild this baby from the ground up. I want to convert the truck from 2x4 to a 4x4 with a small enough diesel engine so the gas milage is better or approx the same. And I want the torque that comes with it. The problem is I dont know how I can achieve this and is it possible todo??? what parts will I need ???I was also wandering what parts are interchangable with other models of gmc or chev. if you guys have any cool Ideas for me I might apply them to the truck. I want to go with a light and dark wood theme through out the truck..... any advice would be much appreciated thank you.

Your best bet would be to find a 4x4 junker and use the running gear out of that or just buy a 4x4 truck. Actually doing a conversion would be all but impossible. As far as finding a small diesel engine, I have no idea.

Yeah, not to burst your bubble, but sell the truck and buy one that is 4X4 already. Your wallet will thank you. As far as the diesel conversion, I am not saying it is impossible, but I hope you have a HUGE budget for the build. For the money it will cost you, you could go ahead and buy a couple year old Duramax 4X4 fullsize. Sounds like a cool idea if you have money to burn though! Keep us posted.
