RE: 180 degree stat

Question:

why do you want a 180 degree thermostat?

I thought GM engine was to use a 195 degree thermostat as the engine run more efficient at the higher temp range.

Also senors are set for that temp range and will continue to dump fuel in trying to get engine to that temp.

You have to change the housing in the 2000s and I think you have to tune it to get the full potential.

I can tell you from experience that A. They aren't cheap because the entire housing needs replaced. B. There is no real noticable difference without a tune. (I did notice on a 90 degree day with the A/C on full blast that is was a little spunkier than before the stat). But it wasn't til I tuned it that I noticed a real difference. Having the colder stat will give you a little more lee-way on playing with the timing and fuel trims. Going 160 does nothing more than kill you MPG.
