Default 1978 Chevrolet K10 electrical problems

Here's the story: Truck won't start. It has always started with 1/2 a throttle pump and BANG she running great. The truck has 90,000 original miles on it. Last weekend my cousin borrows it, and now he has it and it won't start. The good news: there is fuel to the carb. Bad news: No spark. He replaced the plugs, coil, ignition module, and rotor. The cap looks good without any visible wear or damage. There is power to the coil.

Any thoughts on where to go from here? He said that he looked at a manual and one of the troubleshooting guides said to check the vacuum controler...??? Any one had this experience or know of a solution? Thanks[/align]

no spark to the plugs at all? What kind of distributor do you have? Is the distributor spinning when it is cranked? Is the lead wire to the coil hot when it is cranked? How much voltage is at the coil when cranked? These things should lead you in the right direction!

I'm not sure of the distributor type or brand. The rotor is spinning under the cap. The lead wire to the coil is hot and there is spark at the coil when grounded out. As of last night I have the truck at home and can have better access to tools. So I will check the voltage at the coil.I am pretty sure that it is 12v as the little test light we used came on bright. However, not sure as I didn't have my good tester. Just to be sure, I put a new cap on it - which didn't solve the situation. Any other thoughts?

-Starter is probably the soliniod.

-For the distrobutor, use a multi meter to get the actual voltage when you crank it. I cannot remember what you are sapposed to have there but I can find out if need be. If you have spark at the coil then put a spark "jump" tester on the coil and refer to your manual for what it is sapposed to have at the coil. Then make sure that the rotor and cap match and are in good shape. After that check the wires. then the plugs. Kinda work your way out from the coil.
