Hello, I have a 1985 GMC 3500 Sierra Classic (dual tanks) with fuel gauge problems. It is reading 7/8 tank, but I ran it out of gas yesterday, so obviously it's not working.

What's the first step to fixing this? As far as I can tell, the fuel tank selector switch isn't working - it has been taken out, and was re-installed upside down.
