RE: 1999 chevy silverado question.
straight from Wikipedia
The GMT800 Silverado/Sierra 1500 (light pickup trucks) were released in 1998 as 1999 models. The "classic" light-duty GMT400 C/K trucks were continued in production for that first year alongside the new models, and the Heavy-Duty GMT400 pickups (alongside the GMT400 SUVs) were continued through 2000, with the new GMT800 Silverado/Sierra HD (Heavy Duty) introduced in 2001.
like i said test drive the hell out of it. if its in good shape settle on a price and step into a mans truck not a boys toyota (just kidding of course).
good luck

I'm not for sure about the 98 body style on a 99? As far as price? Not to bad for a dealer, however you might be able to find a better dealon the net somwhere. Also is it an ext cab? If it's not an ext. cab I would say the price isstill fair for a dealer, (Or at least where I am from). I had to go out of state to get mine.
For reference, however not exactly apples to apples, I just purchased a 99 ext. cab a few weeks ago from an individual off craigslist. It's not a Z71 or a 4X4, but it has the 5.3L V8 and leather and is loaded with a little over 100,000 on the clock for $6,500. So far it has been perfect mechanically and after I waxed it this past week end looks perfect too.
At any rate, as far as gas MPG. If you are only avg 15 in your tacoma, you will be pleasantly surprised. I just checked mine this past week and am avg about 16 to 17 in town, on a road trip I took this past weekend I got 21 out on the road.
I guess I should add this was after a complete tune up.

RE: 1999 chevy silverado question.
Dont remember the vin but I shall find out. For this area the price and the milage is way better than most. Thats what is weird about it. They were asking 10k but they said with the gas prices people are not buying so they lowered the price to 7900. I bet I could get if $7400. It drove really nice and i do want to take it out on the highway this time and see how it does. But man it sucks to make a desicion like this when my 5 year old truck is paid for. I really want it but again my mind is stopping me!! Heck i dont know!!

RE: 1999 chevy silverado question.
A simple 30 minute drive here will illustrate the difference in prices you'll see on trucks. Down near Seattle, one truck might be 25K, and it's identical twin (color, mileage, options...etc) can be had for 18-19K if you just get out of King county.
Then there's the option of driving waaaaaay the hell over to Idaho. Apparantly Dave Smith Motors in Boise has crazy *** deals on trucks. Lots of people I know have made the trek over two mountain passes just to buy from them.

ac compressor clutch
Hello,
Here is my issue, from what I can tell is the clutch on the compressor will not engage once it has cycled. I know this becuase when i start my truck and its in park it blows cold air , beautifully cold air. Even if i drive it a bit it will stay cold. But after a few min, or miles, it will turn off and not come back on until i turn the truck off or it sits a while ect ect. So, question is can i repair the compressor clutch and not spend 800 plus on a new ac system ? or am i just S.O.L. , let me know thanks

Aj - Welcome. You are better off starting a new thread. Assuming you have a Silverdao or Sierra, go to the main Silverado/Sierra page and click "New Thread". And give the details on your vehicle.
