1999 Silverado Cam Change to LS6
I have heard that some folks put Vette LS6 Cam on their Silverado? Is there a better cam option then the LS6? Are there any benefits to this? Also what all do you have to change if one wanted to do this?
Thanks!
Thanks!
You will also need to change the valve springs. Otherwise the valves will float at WOT. I did my 2001 5.3 with a stock LS1 cam. With a tune gave me 36 hp increase. With that cam you will get bout the same at least but more.
Yes I agree wit timberwolf. Anytime an engine is upgraded to a cam with a longer duration and more lift, bottom end is lost, but the powerband is moved up higher. So a higher stall torque converter is needed to gain that bottom end torque back. So the stock cams these vortec motors come with, are probably the best for towing and hauling.
Depends on how big of a cam you go with. Mine with the Cold Air Intake, tune, ported throttle body, some weight taken off the bed, I get about 21-22 MPG on the highway, 18 in city.
Thanks Ruffneck. Any chance you could give me guidance on how to set my truck up like yours? I am currently getting 16 mpg.
Sure thing. I have the cold air intake from autozone off the shelf for $149. Its a Spectre brand but works just as good as any other. A throttle body spacer for $89, NGK spark plugs $6 a piece, Magnaflow mufller $50, I also took some weight off the rear like the bumper is replaced with a roll pan, took the spare off, the towing hitch is off. I use synthetic oil in the motor. Lots of options but it all ties in together.
