have a stock 99 Silverado 1500 4wd Z71 with a 5.3 and about 150 miles. t has been running fine parked it last night and this morning it cranks but won't hit or start. Tt has been cold and wet in Portland Oregon.

It feels like its not getting gas. will run some starting fluid to see if it hits. The fuel pump doesn't sound like its running.

Where should I start. You're help is greatly appreciated!

 

i'd check fuel filter first, then move to the fuel pump...

 

could also be your battery is not to good and there is not enough power getting to the engine

 

doubt its the battery, if it has enough juice to turn the motor, it has enough to fire. hit the tank with a rubber mallet, if it starts it may be the pump. check all fuses. ask argon, that guy has all the answers

 

Which fuse is the fuel pump. checked all the ones that looked like they were part of the engine function. also have a "service Engine light. Swapped the relay with the horn rely still no fuel pump hum. had my wife pick up a fuel pump. guess there is a TCF and a TCU type. have a new TCF hope it's the right one. A NAPA part it was $291. Should get a delco instead.

 

cheque your positive battery cable for bad connections, make sure your battery is good, I have 180,000 miles and just replaced my starter, it was draining my battery. If it is nor resonating alot of electricity it won't be strong enought to turn the crankshaft.

 

This thing cranks like a bat out of hell. The battery and the starter are fine. I will drain the gas tank tonight and pull it to change the fuel pump. Argon, which fuse is for the fuel pump? I swapped the relay and its OK.

Does that year have the security switch under the hood that won't let it start? Also since you talk about moisture, look at distributor cap if that year has one.
